Mary L. Gleason
1930-2020
Mary L. Gleason was a passionate educator, devoted wife and mother, and cherished friend who brought warmth, wit, and wisdom to every chapter of her life.
Born and raised in Syracuse, NY, Mary attended Le Moyne College where she met her beloved husband Martin through the Glee Club—a love story that would span more than six decades. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Syracuse University and pursued her calling as a third-grade teacher, touching the lives of countless students with her compassion and intelligence.
In 1955, Mary and Martin married and settled in Whitestone, NY to raise their family. Upon Martin’s retirement in 2000, the couple moved to Mahwah, NJ where Mary spent two joyful decades cultivating deep friendships and hosting countless family gatherings.
A lifelong learner, Mary was an avid reader, painter, chess enthusiast, and dedicated bridge player. While she enjoyed the challenge of the game, it was the connections and friendships made around the bridge table that she treasured most.
Mary was known for her kindness, positivity, and her remarkable ability to see—and bring out—the best in everyone. She believed deeply that "everyone has a story" and took genuine delight in discovering and celebrating those stories.
Above all, Mary was a tireless supporter of her family, cheering on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in every milestone. She remains an enduring inspiration to all who had the joy of knowing her.
